About the kit
Students are introduced to the key concepts, skills and knowledge in History and Geography. This kit is a study of current events covering the curriculum for Social Studies, History and Geography. It focuses on Canadian and world issues at the Junior and Intermediate levels. This kit helps students understand their world and the relationship between past and present day situations. Includes problem solving, research, communication and collaboration skills.

Survey Says....

You have been asked by the Toronto Star to report how knowledgeable Canadians are about the landforms of their country. Think of 10 questions that you could ask students in your school or people in the community about the location and description of the physical features of Canada. Conduct the lnterviews with at least 10 people. Record the answers.

Make a chart or graph to show your findings. Share your findings with your classmates.

Write an article for the newspaper highlighting the results of your survey. Include the 5 W's in your report:

  • Where does the survey take place?
  • Who were involved in the survey?
  • How was the survey conducted?
  • What were the results of the survey?
  • Why is this news story of interest?

    First Impressions

    Clip newspaper photographs of the Prime Minister and the premiers. Based on the pictures, what impressions do you have of the personality and characteristics of the leaders? In a paragraph explain, why you have those impressions.
